Archbishop Cordileone of San Francisco has asked us to pray for Speaker Pelosi. Specifically, he requested a weekly rosary and a fast on Fridays.
If you are already doing these things, you might consider also praying this novena to cover in prayer all the other pro-abortion Catholics in public office.
If you haven’t heard of the amazing saints invoked in this novena, go here. If you don’t know what novenas are all about, go here.
Day 1: Thursday, May 26
Day 2: Friday, May 27
Day 3: Saturday, May 28
Day 4: Sunday, May 29
Day 5: Monday, May 30
Day 6: Tuesday, May 31
Day 7: Wednesday, June 1
Day 8: Thursday, June 2
Day 9: Friday, June 3, Feast of St. Charles Lwanga & Companions
The novena prayer is the same for each day:
Holy God, we ask that our prayers be joined to those of St. Charles Lwanga & Companions. On earth, they were the attendants of a violent, destructive king who entrusted himself to worldly power. In defying that power, these noble martyrs entrusted themselves to the King of Kings who is the Prince of Peace. They rejoice now in your presence and pray for the salvation of all the world.
With their intercession, and for the glory of Your name, which You revealed to be Love, we beg the conversion of our sisters and brothers who advocate for legal abortion while holding public office.
Grant them, Lord God, the wisdom to see and name abortion as the violent evil that it is. Grant them the courage of these mighty saints to surrender everything for Your sake. Grant them the humility to heed the authority of the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
To us who pray this novena, grant the gifts of counsel and charity, that we might be for them a reason to believe and not a stumbling block on their path back to true communion.
Amen.
*Ideas for remembering to pray the novena: Put roses on your dining room table; set a daily alert on your phone; always be in the middle of some novena so it becomes a habit!
*On June 3, it would be great if you could get to Mass! OL Rosary Greenville has Mass at 10 am that day.
*Consider sending Speaker Pelosi, President Biden, and others a friendly card telling them of your intercession on their behalf.
*If you are distressed about the idea of denial of communion, read the statements of some of our US bishops on the subject at The Pillar.
*Please note that this novena is in no way an official prayer of the Church. I wrote it just now and have not yet had it approved by any ecclesiastical authority. It is within our responsibilities as laypeople to pray, and it helps when we can do it together, but please know this is meant as a private, lay endeavor, suggested to people I know (and all five readers of my blog)! Pray at your own risk!
*If you are looking for a print of Charles Lwanga for your home, this is really striking, and this one is on my Christmas list.
*Photo Credit: Corey O’Connell on Unsplash.com I chose it because the archbishop has been sending Speaker Pelosi roses to represent prayers.
Pax et bonum,
